The CineMorph Mod Filter for Sigma & Zeiss Distagon (Canon mount) lenses

from $30.00

The CineMorph Mod Filter (modification) for the popular Sigma 18-35mm & 50-100mm f1.8 lenses. Canon Mount only at this time. It also works with other Sigma & Zeiss Distagon (Canon mount) lenses!! Since the 18-35mm and 50-100mm lenses are meant for use on crop sensor cameras, we do not recommend using full-frame sensors - heavy vignetting will appear on full-frame sensors.

Anamorphic Bokeh on the entire 18-35mm & 50-100mm ranges with Optional Flare/Streak element.

THE CINEMORPH MOD FILTER

For Sigma-Canon EF mount lenses and some Zeiss-Canon EF mount lenses.  Since the 18-35mm and 50-100mm lenses are meant for use on crop sensor cameras, we do not recommend using full-frame sensors - heavy vignetting will appear on full-frame sensors.

TO USE ON NON-CANON SIGMA LENSES, PLEASE CONSIDER OUR CINEMORPH DECAL LENS-BACK FILTERS HERE

The patent-pending design of the CineMorph filters will never replace true anamorphic images, but lenses as fun and versatile as the Sigma 18mm-35mm & 50-100mm f1.8 deserve to have some fun and come close!

Anamorphic Bokeh throughout the whole range of the lens (18mm to 35mm & 50mm to 100mm as well as other Sigma-Canon lenses).  We do not recommend using full-frame sensors - heavy vignetting will appear on full-frame sensors.

For the very first time you can now have Anamorphic and Vintage looks on an f1.8 Wide-Angle zoom lens along with auto-features all at once. Lens sold separately.

For optimal results, please stay between f1.8 and f2.8 - stopping down the lens will result in heavy vignetting. We recommend staying wide open and using a Variable ND or Fader ND or similar type filter on the front of the lens

The filter will not stretch or squeeze your image like a real anamorphic lens, only the bokeh and the areas out of focus will be morphed.

This gives you the classic CinemaScope look without all the hassles of dual rack focusing, clamping, severe vignetting and without additional glass that can soften the image. Also without the price tag of real anamorphic lenses and attachments!

Mounts behind the lens, not in front! No additional glass!

The main down side is that you'll lose about 1 stop of light as your lens will now act more like an f2.8 (see Before & After sample image below).

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO YOUR LENS OR CAMERA. THESE FILTERS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND USED ON MANY COMBINATIONS SUCCESSFULLY. IF YOU FEEL ANY RESISTANCE WHEN MOUNTING THE LENS TO YOUR CAMERA WITH FILTER ATTACHED PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED ANY FURTHER BY FORCING IT TO MOUNT.

DOUBLE CHECK THAT THE FILTER IS ATTACHED AND ALIGNED CORRECTLY AND THAT THE SCREWS/FASTENERS ARE NOT PROTRUDING OUT. A PROTRUDING SCREW CAN DAMAGE THE CONTACTS ON YOUR CAMERA.

THIS FILTER WILL NOT WORK WITH SOME VILTROX ADAPTERS. WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND USING A BASIC ADAPTER THAT DOES NOT HAVE CORRECTIVE GLASS OR OTHER COMPONENTS; ADAPTERS SIMILAR TO THIS. WE USE IT OFTEN OURSELVES ON THE VILTROX EF-M2 WITHOUT ANY ISSUES, BUT SOME USERS IN THE PAST HAVE REPORTED BACK TO US THAT THE FILTER DID NOT WORK, POSSIBLY WITH THE OLDER VILTROX ADAPTERS.

To give even more of an anamorphic effect when using our CineMorph filters, please consider the following post-editing effects.

  • Apply a 4 or 5% vertical stretch; this helps to evoke a CinemaScope-look.

  • Apply a slight outward lens distort or bowing effect; this is a true characteristic of real Anamorphic/CinemaScope optics. This is an easy effect to apply on each clip in Davinci Resolve.

  • Apply a 2.40:1 (or any ratio of your choosing) Letterbox mask. Be sure to film with the post aspect ratio in mind.

CineMorph (Anamorphic Looks) Mod Filter fun on the Sigma 18-35mm zoom lens on the BlackMagic Cinema Camera by Michael LeCroy

Polish short documentary (subtitled in English) about a young female welder. Directed, filmed and edited by Tomas Suski www.tomsuski.com

Filmed on the Canon 60D with Sigma 18-35 and the CineMorph Mod Filter (Cool Blue flare option).

SOME BLACKMAGIC CINEMA (EF MOUNT) CAMERAS DO NOT SUPPORT 3RD PARTY EF ADAPTERS OR MODIFICATIONS SUCH AS THIS AND THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE IF YOU DECIDE TO USE THIS AS WITH ANY OTHER ADAPTER. THIS IS DUE TO A FOCAL FLANGE DISTANCE ISSUE WITH SOME OF THEIR CAMERAS.

If there is any resistance when trying to mount the lens to a camera (with the filter installed) PLEASE NEVER force it to mount. Make sure the 3 little fastener-screws are fully repositioned back into place as flush as possible.

THIS FILTER WILL NOT WORK WITH VILTROX ADAPTERS.

See our other CineMorph and Flare/Streak filters HERE for options on many other lenses and various lens/camera combinations.

INSTALLATION:

This CineMorph Modification Filter requires you to loosen 3 small screws at the back of the lens, position and align the filter into place and then tighten or replace the 3 small screws. See Video Below.

If there is any resistance when trying to mount the lens to a camera (with the filter installed) PLEASE NEVER force it to mount.

IT IS A VERY EASY AND SIMPLE ELEMENT TO INSTALL, BUT YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY AN IMPROPER INSTALLATION. BY PURCHASING THIS FILTER YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS.

There are many many variables these days (with 3rd party adapters, speedboosters, etc., so we are constantly testing new combinations. Please do not purchase this if you are not willing to assume risk when using with combinations that have not yet been tested. Please contact us with any questions. If there is any resistance when trying to mount to your camera do NOT force it to mount.

FAQ:

Q: Can this filter be used with Speedboosters on the GH4 or other M4/3 cameras?

A: Some users have reported that the CineMorph Mod filters along with various Speedboosters are too tight of a fit. Others have reported no issues and have shared great results with us using speedboosters (see videos above). Please conside using our much thinned LensBack and Speedbooster decal filters AVAILABLE HERE if you’re concerned about a tight fit.

When using the CineMorph Mod filter it's best to use a Lens-to-Camera converter with more space within the converter - something very basic and affordable similar to this one HERE.

Using this converter doesn't allow for all of the extra benefits that the Speedboosters achieve, but it will allow for the use of the Mod filter giving you anamorphic looks on the Sigma-Canon lenses.

We have made the filters a little thinner recently and so it may work with various speedboosters but please know that if you feel any resistance when mounting to never force it.

The Flare/Streak filament has a neutral color, meaning it's color is dependent on the color temperature of the light source coming in to the lens. You can also select from the Flare/Streak colors shown below.
