SUBTLE IMPERFECTIONS. DISTINCTIVE CHARACTER.

Introduces in-camera dimension & atmospheric depth, enhancing the visual richness of each shot.

Drawing from the principles of traditional split-diopter filters going back to the 1960s and 70s, this design incorporates integrated prism elements to create more dynamic and expressive distortions.

The handheld form factor allows for intuitive control and quick adjustments on set.

Brings energy and illumination to the edges of the frame while subtly texturizing negative space, resulting in a more layered and more cinematic image.

Our current iteration of the handheld distortion filter helps energize the outer edges of the image and gently break up the empty look-space, resulting in a more dynamic and immersive visual experience.

Since our beginnings, we’ve offered a range of visual distortion filters across various mounting methods; screw-on, handheld, and matte box configurations, including partial matte box solutions.

These filters were inspired by the work of Bruno Avellian and Philippe Le Sourd, and of course, the films of Hitchcock and Brian DePalma. During the design process, we reached out to some of them and as many cinematographers as we could to geek-chat about their methods and experiences using prism & distortion filters.

In recent years, we’ve had the opportunity to further refine and test these filters on professional productions, including use on the sets of the various Star Wars series shows and the upcoming feature film The Mandalorian & Grogu.

These filters introduce additional in-camera dimension and atmospheric depth, bringing subtle movement and texture to the frame.

The following videos are presented for inspiration and to showcase the visual possibilities of refraction and prism-based filtration, as demonstrated by filmmaker Bruno Avellian and Philippe Le Sourd. Please note that the filters featured in these videos are not our products.
